Culturing and Identification of Microorganisms

Now you need to grow the micro-organisms in the laboratory for them to be identified. You have begun the process of identification by Gram staining samples SL 2004/1 (urethral) and SL 2004/4 (food). All the samples should be cultured on media to isolate the microorganisms they contain to allow a good chance of identifying any microorganisms present.

There are four tasks you will be undertaking in this section.

1. Select, inoculate and incubate culture media
2. Purifying cultures
3. Identification techniques
4. Specialised techniques.

Complete each task in order, following the steps and instructions.
