Assessment

You have now completed the knowledge content and activities for PMLOHS300A Work Safely in Accordance with Defined Policies and Procedures. You may undertake the assessment if you are ready or review the material in this unit again.

To be recognised as competent in this unit you must be assessed in both the knowledge content and the workplace skills. The assessment is in two parts, part one is a scenario that asks you to apply the knowledge you have acquired in the unit and part two is a practical assessment.

Part 1. Knowledge Assessment

Introduction
Now that you have completed this unit you can practice your skills in your own workplace or learning environment. You have two tasks to undertake and then send to your tutor to complete the knowledge assessment of this unit.

Task 1. Safety Audit
You are asked to carry out a complete safety audit for a laboratory. Use the Safety Audit Checklist as a guide to carry out this operation in your own workplace or learning environment laboratory. The completed checklist, with your comments on improvements and changes needed to bring your workplace into line with the OHS laws, regulations and codes or practice, should be sent to your tutor.

Task 2. Possible additions to Safety Audit Checklist
After completing the Safety Audit of your workplace think about the areas that might not have been covered by the Safety Audit Checklist and construct additional questions to add to the checklist. Send the extra questions to your tutor.

Part 2. Practical Assessment

Practical assessment requires you to demonstrate the competency on-the-job (or in a simulated laboratory).

The assessment will consist of:

  • a demonstration of the competency in an on-the-job situation or a simulation
  • oral questioning about such things as laboratory specific knowledge of processes, troubleshooting and
  • questioning related to specific safety or other factors that may be peculiar to the learner's work environment
  • any relevant workplace documents that support the assessment.
If you are ready to undertake the practical assessment send a message to your tutor using the mail facility.
