The LSC is a sophisticated piece of analytical equipment with moving
parts and delicate detection equipment. There are a number of maintenance
operations that can be carried out and these are listed below.

On the Main Menu access Diagnostics Drop down and click

Will check and automatically adjust all computer settings.

Replace paper in Printer |
Follow instructions printed on the inside lid of printer.
Paper is located in the office consumables store – ‘Becksley
Form 23A”. |
A purple strip will run along the last 5m of paper and
a red strip along the last 2m. Replace paper when red strip first
appears. |
Lubricate Conveyor Mechanism |
Use ‘Becksley Snow White Petroleum Jelly SWPJ
11’ and follow instructions in Maintenance Manual. |
Turn off LSC at wall before starting. Use petroleum
jelly sparingly. |
Replace Fusible Link |
Located under Control panel. Replace with ‘Becksley
Fusible Link X67’. |
Turn off LSC at wall before starting. If link blows
within 7 days of replacement, call the Becksley technician. |
Clean Counting Chamber |
Use vacuum cleaner to remove dust and fluff. |
Turn off LSC at wall before starting. |
Clean Counting Racks |
Clean in Radioactive Room sink using a mild non-abrasive
detergent. |
A toothbrush may be used to remove dirt and smears. |
Adjust Spindle Fold Mechanism |
Follow instructions in the Maintenance Manual. |
Turn off LSC at wall before starting. Do not put fingers
near the pinion wheel (coloured red) as the teeth are extremely sharp. |
