Part 5: Maintain accurate training records
Job completed...
The work-group training courses are now complete, and a system for ongoing monitoring of the effectiveness of the training has been implemented - at last you can catch your breath before the NATA assessment team arrives. Not much time left, but time to get involved in more routine lab issues or is it!

You didn't realise there was so much involved in 'organising a bit of training'!
You thought you would have a look at what AS/NZS ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management System - Requirements, says about maintaining training records. Section 6.2.2e says 'maintain appropriate records of education, training, skills and experience (see 4.2.4)'. The standard is somewhat inconsistent in its requirements for maintaining training records because:
In Section 6.2.1 of the standard it requires 'personnel performing work affecting product quality to be competent on the basis of appropriate education, training, skills and experience'.
In Section 6.2.2a of the standard it requires the organisation 'to determine the necessary competence for personnel performing work affecting product quality', but the organisation needs only to maintain records of education, training, skills and experience.
You download the appropriate training records from SimuLab's intranet Employee Training Record and Training Matrix - Quality Control and Quality System Procedures and head down to Helene's office.
